Shown above are the 5/32", 1/4" and 3/8" Jacobs drill chucks offered for use with the Sherline lathe and mill. Larger photos are available in each section below. Chucks can be purchased with just a #1 Morse arbor or with both a #0 and #1 Morse arbor. These chucks are manufactured by Jacobs, and the arbors are manufactured by Sherline.
P/N 1010 Jacobs 5/32" Chuck with #1 Morse arbor...
P/N 1010 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
The 5/32" chuck holds drills from 5/32" (4mm) down to #80 (.0135" or .343mm). It is designated "0JT" which stands for "Zero Jacobs Taper", because it comes with a #0 Jacobs tapered hole in the back. Into that we have pressed a special arbor that provides either a #1 Morse taper to fit into the Sherline headstock or a #0 Morse taper to fit the tailstock. A chuck key plus a drawbolt and washer are included with P/N 1010 to secure the chuck in position. These chucks are useful for holding very small drills and their shorter length provides an increase of about 1/2" in working space between centers on the shortbed lathe compared to the 1/4" drill chuck. Runout as specified by Jacobs is .004" or less.
NOTE: Because the arbor is pressed into the chuck, it is not interchangeable from chuck to chuck. A separate chuck must be purchased for #0 and #1 Morse use.
P/N 1015 Jacobs 5/32" Chuck with #0 Morse arbor...
P/N 1015 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
The P/N 1015 Chuck is identical in capacity to the 1010 chuck above except that a #0 Morse arbor has been pressed into the Jacobs taper in the back of the chuck. It is used in the tailstock and does not require a drawbolt.
NOTE: Because the arbor is pressed into the chuck, it is not interchangeable from chuck to chuck. A separate chuck must be purchased for #0 and #1 Morse use.
P/N 1016 Jacobs 5/32" Chuck on Adjustable Back plate with #0 MT...
P/N 1016 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
The P/N 1016 chuck with adjustable backplate brings a new level of centering accuracy to the 5/32" chuck. Extremely tiny drill bits require perfect centering or they are easily broken. By adjusting the front plate in relation to the rear plate which is mounted in the tailstock, perfect centering with the headstock can be achieved. This means your tiny drills hit the exact center of your part every time and do not break due to misalignment. This chuck can easily pay for itself in less broken bits in a short time.
NOTE: If you already have a P/N 1015 5/32" chuck, you can purchase just the backing plate which is P/N 1204. The 0JT arbor that is pressed into the back of the chuck can be tapped out and the chuck can be pressed onto the arbor of the 1204. If you have the 1010 chuck (#1 MT back) intend to change back and forth on a regular basis, we recommend you purchase the 1016 chuck separately to avoid constantly pressing the chuck onto and off of the tapered back.

P/N 1072 1/4" Jacobs Drill Chuck w/ #0 and #1 Morse Arbors...
P/N 1072 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
A drill chuck is probably the most important accessory you will need for your lathe. It will enable you to accurately centerline drill, ream, or tap any part mounted on the lathe. The part to be machined is chuck or collet mounted in the headstock. The tool is mounted in the tailstock chuck and fed into the part using the tailstock ram feed. Parts that are going to be mounted between centers can be center drilled this way. Other parts requiring a hole accurately drilled on center can also be machined this way.
The Sherline tailstock chuck P/N 1072 is a precision 1/32" (.8mm) to 1/4" (6.4mm) 3-jaw Jacobs chuck complete with key. It is fitted with a #0 Morse arbor to fit in the tailstock of the Sherline lathe. Also included is a #1 Morse arbor and drawbolt so the chuck can be used in the lathe or mill headstock.
Allowable chuck runout as specified by Jacobs is .004" or less. For more accurate work collets should be used.
P/N 3072 1/4" Jacobs #1 Morse Drill Chuck...
P/N 3072 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
The P/N 3072 1/4" chuck includes a #1 Morse arbor so that it can be mounted in the headstock of the lathe or mill. P/N 3072 has the same size capacity as the P/N 1072 chuck above, which is 1/32" to 1/4". P/N 3072 is usually purchased when it will be used only for drilling in a mill where the #0 Morse arbor is not required. Included is a drawbolt (not shown) to draw the #1 Morse arbor into the taper of the headstock spindle. (NOTE: If the drill chuck is to be used on both the lathe and mill, purchase P/N 1072 which comes with both #0 and #1 Morse arbors.)
Allowable chuck runout as specified by Jacobs is .004" or less.

P/N 1069 3/8" Jacobs Tailstock Drill Chuck with #0 and #1 Morse arbors...
P/N 1069 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
This larger drill chuck will hold drills from 1/32" (.8 mm) up to 3/8" (9.5 mm) in diameter. Because of its longer length and ability to hold longer 3/8" drills, it is normally recommended for use on the longer 4400-series lathes.
It comes with a #0 Morse arbor for use in the lathe tailstock spindle. Also included is a #1 Morse arbor and drawbolt so the chuck can be used in the lathe or mill headstock as well.Allowable chuck runout as specified by Jacobs is .004" or less.
P/N 3073 3/8" Jacobs Drill Chuck with #1 Morse arbor and drawbolt...
P/N 3073 (Click on photo to view larger image.)
The P/N 3073 3/8" chuck includes a #1 Morse arbor and drawbolt (not shown) so that it can be mounted in the headstock of the lathe or mill. P/N 3073 has the same size capacity as the P/N 1069 chuck above, which is 1/32" to 3/8". (NOTE: If the drill chuck is to be used on both the lathe and mill, purchase P/N 1069 which comes with both #0 and #1 Morse arbors.)
Allowable chuck runout as specified by Jacobs is .004" or less.
