Important Update Regarding Sherline Products

We would like to share an encouraging development regarding the future of Sherline Products.
We are currently in discussions with an American manufacturer regarding the potential purchase of Sherline’s intellectual property and remaining inventory. The goal of this proposed acquisition is to preserve and revitalize the Sherline brand while providing continued availability of replacement parts, accessories, and machines for our valued customers.
As these discussions progress, we have agreed to temporarily suspend accepting new orders, effective October 19, 2026. This will allow us to preserve our remaining inventory while negotiations are underway.
Although no final agreement has been reached, we are hopeful that this opportunity will provide a positive path forward for the Sherline name and the customers who have trusted our products for more than five decades.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued loyalty during this transition. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available.
Our greatest hope is that the Sherline legacy of quality, precision, and American craftsmanship will continue for generations to come.

Product Description

The purpose of the follower rest is to keep long or small diameter work from deflecting when a cutting tool is applied to it. It is attached to the lathe saddle and moves as the saddle moves, keeping the point of support directly behind the cutting tool. This helps you maintain accuracy on long cuts and on small diameter stock.

The follower rest is mounted to the lathe saddle with one 10-32 set screw. It is not necessary to drill any mounting holes, and full instructions are provided for use. A support bar is attached to the table using a T-nut in the table slot. The support and T-nut are also provided. A small set screw adjustment at the end of the support presses down on the follower base to keep it from rising. It slides along the top of the follower base, allowing the tool post and tool to be moved in and out while still keeping downward pressure on the follower rest.

    3/8″ Drill Chuck with Two Arbors

    This chuck includes a #0 Morse arbor for use in the tailstock for center drilling and a #1 Morse arbor for use in the headstock. It will hold drills from 3/32" (2.4 mm) to 3/8" (9.5 mm) in diameter.  Runout is .003" or less. If runout of less than this amount is required, collets should be used to hold the drill rather than a chuck.

    NOTE: Because of its longer length and ability to hold longer 3/8" drills, this chuck is normally recommended for use on the longer 4400-series benchtop lathes.

    All materials tend to deflect away from the cutting tool when you are turning them on a lathe. This tendency is especially noticeable on long, slender parts and long pieces of bar stock, which makes it quite difficult to hold close tolerances. The best way to support a long section is with a center mounted in the tailstock. However, for one reason or another, this is not always possible. As an example, it may be a piece of stock that you want to center drill so that you can mount it between centers, or it may be a part where a center drill hole would ruin the looks of the piece. Whatever the reason, a steady rest provides a means of supporting the piece while it turns.

    The Sherline steady rest has three adjustable brass blades mounted in a holder that mounts on the bed of the lathe. These blades can be adjusted to the diameter of the part to provide the necessary support. Another advantage of the steady rest that is often overlooked is the fact that work held in position by the rest turns concentrically with its outside diameter. This means that concentricity is assured when working near the steady rest, because, at that point, it must be running perfectly true despite imperfections in how it is chucked or centered at either end. The Sherline steady rest will accommodate any size part, up to 1.75" (44mm) in diameter.

    A steady rest riser block is available, which makes it possible to use the steady rest on the lathe with the headstock and tailstock riser blocks in place.
